ABOUT

Using words and images to antagonise, interrogate and inspire discourses, Amy-Jean Muller’s work is both transgressive and existential. Far from the fairer sex, her work is experimental and explicit. From poetry to art, each piece is rich in symbolism, absorbed in research and oftentimes confrontational in content. Deeply considered and poised in thought, even the most heart wrenching pieces will touch you in a way that’ll last long after the first meeting.  Muller’s work focusses on sexuality, femininity, women’s rights, coming of age, and mental health. Each piece will kick you in the teeth so hard the only thing left to do is shut up and listen.

Mutual masturbation is a moment shared with very specific rules and expectations, generally, you should both agree to do it, or at the very least, know it’s happening.

WRITING

I have a small bird in my pocket and I keep him because there is no room for more in my heart

“Pocket” published Emerge Literary Journal December 2020

Each piece twists the conformity of traditional literary splendour to create work where societies harsh realities are exposed. Poetry carries a gut punching rawness that shows beauty can be found in even the most painful experiences. Her writing explores the wittiness of honest social commentary, while her stories create such deep introspection that each word will bring you to your knees.

ARTWORK

Each mark expresses the tension of subjects in artwork that investigate the disturbing encounters of the world. Muller’s subjects are taboo, provocative, personal and obscure. She does not attempt to gloss over the devastating beauty of melancholy or the unequivocal rawness of sexuality. Images are bold and dramatic, where strokes move with tension on the canvas in expressive confrontational vigour.

BOOK

Baptism by Fire is a poetry collection rich in symbolism, and gut wrenching in content. Not for the faint hearted, Muller’s work reads like a story of the visceral experiences of one female protagonist. The work takes us on a journey where the speaker encounters the destructive realities of the world attempting to undermine and manipulate her and her body. This work leads us on a passionate pursuit of authenticity and the drive toward the liberation of power. Vexatiously honest and brutally confrontational, the work leans towards sexual liberation and the power of female identity
